Recycling threefold
Visiting three companies in the plastics recycling industry.

On January 21, 2025, students from RWTH Aachen and bvse* employees visited three companies in the plastics recycling industry.
The excursion began at MEG Übach-Palenberg GmbH, which specializes in sustainable PET recycling and produces both granules and preforms. These materials obtained from PET bottles are used in new PET disposable beverage bottles from Lidl and Kaufland. MEG is part of the Schwarz Group.
The second stop was the visit to MKV GmbH Kunststoffgranulate in Beselich. Here, the students were able to get an impression of how post-industrial recycled (PIR) plastics are processed and how high-quality regranulates and compounds are made from them.
On their tour of the company premises, the individual process steps from grinding the plastics to analyzing the materials in the company's own laboratory to processing on one of the twin-screw extruders were impressive. These processes for reprocessing plastic waste and by-products bring together the knowledge and expertise of 65 years of entrepreneurship in the field of recycling.
The excursion concluded at Hündgen Entsorgungs GmbH & Co. KG in Swisttal, a pioneer in the sorting of lightweight packaging waste and the material recycling of plastics. The company processes 120,000 tons of waste annually and relies on the latest technologies such as wind sifting and near-infrared separation. It continuously invests in new recycling technologies and promotes the development of sustainable recycling processes.
The excursion highlighted the innovative strength and importance of these companies for the circular economy.
