112 - Fire Fighters Call
Practice for an emergency
Sirens blaring, the fire department is here! - Fire drill with the Obertiefenbach Volunteer Fire Department.
On the evening of March 26, 2026, a successful fire drill was conducted on the MKV company premises in cooperation with the Beselich-Obertiefenbach Volunteer Fire Department.
The goal of the drill was to test the alarm procedures via the fire alarm system, the behavior of employees in the event of an alarm, and the cooperation between the company and the fire department in the event of a fire.
The following scenario was assumed for the drill: Heavy smoke developed in the production hall for grinding plastic parts, caused by a malfunctioning mill. The alarm was triggered by a manual call point of the fire alarm system. At that time, five employees were in another building on the company premises, engaged in ongoing production. No other persons were present. In the drill scenario, two people were considered missing in the grinding hall.
The Beselich-Obertiefenbach Volunteer Fire Department arrived at the company premises shortly after the alarm was triggered and began assessing the situation. Due to the anticipated heavy smoke, firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the milling hall for rescue operations and firefighting. Simultaneously, measures were taken to ensure a sufficient water supply for firefighting.
Employees in the production area reacted promptly to the alarm, and the production hall was evacuated within approximately 45 seconds. At the designated assembly point, the shift supervisor confirmed that all employees were present and reported back to the incident commander.
The fire drill proceeded according to plan and without incident. The alarm system and the cooperation between the company and the Beselich-Obertiefenbach Volunteer Fire Department functioned as intended.
Such a fire drill is an important measure for reviewing operational safety procedures. In particular, the real alarm triggered by the fire alarm system, the involvement of the employees present, and the realistic intervention of the fire department provide valuable insights for a real emergency.
A heartfelt thank you to the Obertiefenbach Volunteer Fire Department and the MKV Team for their dedicated participation!
The exercise was overseen by Renate Zies (Managing Director), Kai Zies (Managing Director), and Patrick Fischer (Fire Safety Officer) from MKV.
